Founded in 2009

OneWorld Health (OWH) was founded in 2009 by Dr. Ed O’Bryan and Matt Alexander. As they traveled and worked with overseas mission projects in developing countries, Ed and Matt began to see the overwhelming lack of access to basic healthcare. In much of the developing world, healthcare is only available through underfunded public healthcare systems and unaffordable private systems. Ed and Matt saw a void and great need they could fill and set out to found OWH.

Ashley HomeStore came across OWH as a like-minded organization that believed every life matters, and everyone should have access to basic healthcare, no matter where they live. In January 2017, a friendship began that would transform the way we do business at Ashley HomeStore. One year later, this project started to roll out to our organization and become a part of who we are as Ashley HomeStore.

What Does OneWorld Health Do?

In a world where nearly half the population lives on less than $2 per day (Source: UN, 2013), public healthcare systems in developing countries are overcrowded, poorly equipped, and underfunded. We believe that where you are born should not determine your access to healthcare.

OWH developed a model that provides affordable healthcare to the communities who need it most, and does not require ongoing support to keep the doors open. The facilities are staffed with trained nationals to help the economic structure in the community thrive while meeting the needs for affordable healthcare. Within 6-12 months of opening a healthcare facility, it becomes sustainable, and they can move onto opening a new facility in a new community.

One World, One Goal

To date, OWH has 10 facilities in Uganda and Nicaragua with plans to have 20 facilities open by the close of 2020. They have served 250,000 patients in both Uganda and Nicaragua. Despite the civil unrest in Nicaragua, the clinics have remained open and functioning, and they continue to provide access to healthcare during this difficult time.

By partnering with Ashley HomeStore, we aim to provide access to basic healthcare to 500,000 individuals by 2020. Through this partnership, lives will be changed. Hope, health, and happiness can become a reality for those in developing countries as a part of a bigger story.
